When I tell you my first website design was bad, I mean it was horrible (I might be a little harsh on myself). Yet, I was super proud of it. I had spent weeks learning how to code and design from scratch and I was able to create a simple, responsive website that I only shared with like 5 people. It’s still hidden somewhere in the files on my old computer and will probably never see the light of day.
But, it’s a good reminder of where I started. I still have room for improvement and I am constantly researching better tools and designs to speed up my workflow to create beautiful websites for my clients. However, when I first started, I had an 11-inch Lenovo laptop and sat at my dining room table on a hard wooden dining chair. Guess what? That was six years ago. And I didn’t officially launch my business until December of 2021.
I share all this to hopefully encourage you to get started today. You do not have to be perfect. You do not have to have the perfect setup or workspace. You do not have to have the latest technology or tools. You can get started right where you are at today and learn along the way.
Gradually, day by day, you will make improvements and will get to a place where you feel confident to launch. My hope is that you don’t wait as long as I did to have the courage to launch. I was waiting for perfection. But, I am learning that my perfect today will not be the perfect of tomorrow. I will probably look back on the designs that I made today and think, wow that is awful, what was I thinking? And I hope I do because that means I am a stronger designer and have found an easier, better way to create a beautiful website, logo, or graphic.
When I was researching this quote, I listened to the rest of the clip.
“Practice makes improvement. You can always better your best, you can always go beyond anything that you’ve ever done. You’ll never hit a state of perfection. You’re always bigger than what you do. And so all you’re looking for are new breakthroughs through practice, and practice, and practice. You’ll get better and better and better.”

Whatever your goals are for your business or personal life, you can make them happen. Don’t let perfection stand in the way of your improvements.
