On October 18, 2022, we welcomed our baby boy, Lucas, to the world. We were so excited to meet him and have enjoyed getting to know one another for the last couple of months. Before he was born though, I had grand ideas about balancing work with a newborn. Boy was I wrong.
Now, let’s be clear, I did know it was going to be a challenging and eye-opening experience, but I thought I’d be able to sneak in a couple of hours of work while he napped. That didn’t go as planned. But, I have given myself grace and as he has grown we have started to get into our little routine.
I have some goals for 2023 though to hopefully balance motherhood and building a business.
1. Be Intentional with my Time
Doom scrolling is a thing and especially when I am nap trapped. If you don’t know what nap trapped is, google it. But, I find myself scrolling through social media instead of being intentional with my time. Half of this blog post was written during a contact nap. I could also be reading, researching, or also napping (which is usually the case). I hope to accomplish more during those nap times so that I can soak up the giggles during playtime and not feel guilty for spending so much time scrolling on social media.
2. Don’t Follow Trends
Now, I think trends are important to keep up with so that you know what’s working and what’s not, however, I started my business as a creative outlet and I don’t want to get burnout following trends. My goal is to focus on creating content that makes sense for me and my business and not hopping on every bandwagon.
3. Diversify my Portfolio
I’m always looking for ways to improve my business and I would like to provide a greater range of work in my portfolio. Last year, I used my audience to help me create mock brands and it really pushed me out of my comfort zone to try new things. I enjoyed creating this content and hope to continue with it in the new year.
